I've been meaning to put this one on the blog for a while now. I don't generally read a lot of comics (anymore at least. Mostly just revisits to Calvin & Hobbes), but when a friend needed eyes on his, I agreed to help out and was definitely not disappointed!

Why is it coming on the blog now, you might wonder.

Well, volume 2 is about to release 👀 (Oct. 31st 2025) and I wanted to add that to the blog, so definitely need vol 1 on here too!

Curly is an unfortunate Irish bloke totally treading the right side of the law and who's had the misfortune of getting cursed while doing very honest business, yes very honest indeed. Now he's on a quest to lift the curse, but mostly he just tries to survive the myriad otherworldly creatures he attracts.

Volume 1 contains four stories of Curly the Cursed Con Man's mischievous adventures. With his Hex Journal and Lil' Boomer he fights off ghouls, ghosts, aliens, and the very worst monsters: Humans. He's a swearing charming with too much alcohol in his blood but a heart of gold when it truly matters.

The drawings are fun, full of details, and gives the vibes of old-school TinTin or Spirou & Fantasio.

The stories themselves are horror. Full of dark themes and creepy characters, but played out with an underlying tone of Scandinavian humor-noir (I don't know what else to call it, we have a thing for dark humor here. It might be the long shitty winters). There are plenty of references to classic pop-cultur and to older comics and it gives the whole thing an air of nostalgia.

A fun horror read for the spooky season!
