Chapter 1

The Patchskin Woman, by Cal Black.

What a story to kick off the anthology! Dark fairytale vibes for the win! Sad and stunning.

Chapter 2

Rite of the Tundra, by Jim Wilbourne

Loved the rituals in this. Very sombre.

Chapter 3

Innocence Lost, by H.C. Newell

Gosh the description of the underworld in this one! Bone-chilling!!

Chapter 4

Frosted Embers, by L.L. MacRae

A pet dragon the size of a cat and with an under-bite? Absolutely sold me on this description alone, lol.

Chapter 5

Frozen Hell, by Karim Soliman

Egyptian mythology in a Nordic setting was absolutely not on my bingo card. Very cool mix. Awesome fight scenes.

Chapter 6

Soulshard, by Thiago Abdalla

This had a very epic feel to it despite being a short story. The length of time passing was a nice touch. And I love myself an old, grumpy mentor trope!

Chapter 7

Blood Fire, by Palmer Pickering

I got very nervous reading this one. It was dark in a uncomfortable way but with a very satisfying end to things.

Chapter 8

Cold Silver for Souls, by Tori Tecken

I'm kinda missing the Sierra Nevada after reading this one. The hike reminded me of one I once did up a pass, a little too early in spring (minus the soul-eating ghouls waiting to attack me).

Chapter 9

Border Crossing, by A.R. Witham

Oh boy, everyone was terrible in this story! Very well representation of various forms of abuse. The whiplash of cheering on the MC to suddenly curl my toes and be mad at her was 10/10.

Chapter 10

A Cold Broad River, by Tim Hardie

Another old, grumpy mentor. Love it. Kids getting into trouble - second love it.

Chapter 11

The Chrysmaws Case, by Christer Lende

A funky mix of Christmas, krampus, and a “deal with the devil” in a mystery/monster hunting setting.

Chapter 12

The Crypt of Ice, by D.W. Ross

Such banger dialogue here. Great characterization in very few words.

Chapter 13

Winter’s Dance, by Natalie Kelda

The best of doggos!! Always count on Kelda’s stories to include representation of chronic illness, queer, and/or mental health <3

Chapter 14

The Snowmaker's Child, by Zack Argyle

This was a weird one. Very nice horror feel but I'm not sure I understood the ending.

Chapter 15

An Act of Patience, by H.L. Tinsley

A lovely grimdark story written with a sort of detached voice that made it kinda humorous.
