Dark, eerie folklore vibes with living trees and girls protecting girls no matter the cost.
Another banger short story from Rebecca! This one with slightly darker tones than the other I’ve read from her. Fairytale vibes have been changed out with folklore and a cast of throughout morally grey or downright evil characters.
When two sisters are facing a horrible fate, they take matter into their own hands and get aid from the old forest spirits to set things right.
What follows is a vendetta for justice where nature takes over what belonged to it and the sisters take revenge over those who wronged them or other children.
It’s a sorta twisted Robin Hood but instead of stealing from the rich, it's a bit more ‘eat the rich’ vibe (without actually cannibalism - we’re speaking metaphors here).
It’s a delightful goosebump-read that loosen that knot of injustice constantly residing in your stomach when shitty people get exactly what’s coming for them. No regrets and no questions asked.
I wish we had magical forest like Bailuchien looking over us in real life…
